Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has issued a stern warning to politicians plotting to rig the 2027 governorship election, saying anyone attempting to subvert the people’s will should be prepared to face the consequences.
Otti made the remarks on Thursday during the October edition of Alex Otti Speaks to Abians, held at the Government House in Umuahia and streamed on Channels Television’s YouTube page.
The governor said he welcomes fair competition from anyone who wishes to contest but cautioned that electoral manipulation would not be tolerated. “I have heard that some people are boasting they must take over this state and write results. My advice is simple—if they truly want to write anything, they should start by writing their wills,” he said.
Otti’s statement comes amid growing political activities and alignments in Abia as the 2027 elections draw closer. He stressed that only the will of God and the people would determine the next leadership of the state, not backroom deals or rigging.
The governor, who ended over two decades of the Peoples Democratic Party’s rule in Abia after his 2023 victory under the Labour Party, reaffirmed his commitment to defending the people’s mandate and ensuring credible elections in the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and united in protecting democracy, assuring that his administration would continue to uphold transparency and accountability in governance.
