JAMB Moves To Tighten Security Calls On NSCDC For Stronger Protection

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has appealed to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to intensify security around its facilities nationwide following repeated cases of theft and vandalism.

The request was made during a meeting between JAMB, zonal directors, state coordinators, and heads of professional test centres.

Mufutau Bello, a director in the registrar’s office, revealed that the board had suffered several invasions at its facilities in recent times. He explained that while JAMB had earlier worked with private security firms under NSCDC supervision, the corps later assumed full responsibility, yet critical assets continue to be vandalised and stolen.

The board stressed the need for closer collaboration with security stakeholders to strengthen surveillance and provide round-the-clock protection. Bello disclosed that steps are underway to procure new equipment such as raincoats, boots, and other tools to support officers and improve security operations.

Chidebe Achunine, director of special duties, pointed to recent breaches at the Benin zonal office, Kebbi state office, and a test centre in Osogbo as reminders of the urgent need for stronger measures. He said the department had already issued a security advisory on August 20, 2025, to raise awareness, and the latest meeting was meant to build on that directive with practical strategies.

He urged the NSCDC to maintain regular communication with state directors and coordinators who represent the registrar across the country. He also stressed the importance of community engagement, mutual dialogue, clear reporting channels, and proper documentation to ensure quick responses to threats.

Nda Ali Ibrahim, the corps’ desk officer at JAMB, assured that the NSCDC remains committed to protecting lives and property. He called for additional support, including better allowances for officers, installation of CCTV cameras, perimeter fencing, lighting equipment, and more manpower to make their work effective.

The meeting ended with both parties reaffirming their readiness to work together in building a stronger security network around JAMB’s critical assets.
