The Chairman of Ifelodun Local Government in Kwara State, Abdulrasheed Yusuf, has declared that councils in the state now enjoy true financial independence, free from interference by the state government.

Speaking at a press briefing in Ilorin to mark his first year in office, Yusuf said local government administrations were operating independently and that elected chairmen should be held accountable for their performance. He explained that while councils deliberate on joint accounts, projects are carried out individually to meet the needs of each locality.

The chairman used the occasion to urge politicians and community leaders to set aside political interests in addressing insecurity, insisting that unity was crucial in safeguarding lives and property.

Outlining his achievements in office, Yusuf said his administration had completed projects that touched more than 100 communities. These include building healthcare centres, installing solar-powered boreholes, grading roads, providing streetlights, and supporting security agencies with motorcycles and other logistics.
In Oke-Ode ward, he noted that a new transformer was installed to supply electricity to 62 communities, while water reticulation projects and the renovation of the Primary Health Centre at Labaka Oja were also carried out.
His administration, he added, recruited local guards, issued identity cards to traditional rulers, and strengthened police formations across wards.
Looking ahead, Yusuf pledged to expand efforts in road construction, healthcare, education, and security, stressing that his focus remained on delivering grassroots development that aligns with the broader programmes of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
