Ogun Government Stops Daniel Constituency Road Project

The Ogun State Government has ordered the suspension of work on the Paddy Arikawe Oye Igbimo road in Sagamu GRA, a project linked to former governor and senator representing Ogun East, Gbenga Daniel.

The government said the contractor, Minim and Tonye Nigeria Limited, failed to secure necessary permits before moving to site.

A letter from the Ministry of Works, dated September 17, 2025, and signed by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Lateef Yusuf, confirmed the directive. The ministry explained that the company must obtain state approval before continuing the project, stressing that the road had already been shortlisted by the government for reconstruction in Sagamu Local Government.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, dismissed suggestions of political rivalry being behind the stop-work order. He maintained that the decision was about due process, not politics. He noted that even state governments seek Federal Government clearance before working on federal roads, citing the Abeokuta-Ota-Lagos road as an example.

Akinmade said that similar rules apply to anyone intervening on state facilities, adding that some lawmakers, including the late Adewunmi Onanuga, had previously followed the approval process before embarking on projects. He insisted that the senator should also have complied.

However, Senator Daniel’s media aide, Steve Oliyide, faulted the government’s action, describing it as harmful to the people of Ogun East. He accused the state of repeatedly obstructing projects facilitated by the senator, pointing to the Sagamu-Aiyepe road and the Gateway Hotel road in Ijebu Ode as previous examples where federal contractors were stopped by the state government.

Oliyide alleged that the move was a deliberate attempt to frustrate Federal Government efforts and deny communities the benefits of projects already approved and funded. He argued that such interference risks portraying President Bola Tinubu’s administration negatively before residents who should have been enjoying the benefits of federal interventions.
