Human rights activist Aisha Yesufu has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of being obsessed with Peter Obi, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, alleging that the party has resorted to smear campaigns against him ahead of the 2027 general election.

Yesufu made the allegation in a statement posted on her official X handle on Saturday.

She claimed that the ruling party’s recent criticism of Obi showed that it was concerned about his prospects in the forthcoming presidential election.

According to the activist, the APC believes that rigging may not be an option and has therefore turned to campaigns aimed at damaging Obi’s reputation.
Yesufu further argued that the pattern of attacks against the former Anambra State governor in recent days reflected concerns within the ruling party about his growing support.
The NDC chieftain had repeatedly maintained that Obi’s supporters would not accept what she described as a repeat of the alleged rigging of the 2023 presidential election.
She also said they would closely monitor the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) throughout the electoral process, adding that they had little trust in the institution’s handling of the election.
