Excitement had filled parts of the state on Thursday as residents anticipated Fubara’s return to office, but his absence at the government house stirred concerns.

Speaking during a television interview, Wike explained that governance is not tied to a physical office. He said a governor could still discharge duties without being present at the seat of power, stressing that personal schedules or official engagements could determine the timing of resumption.

Wike maintained that Fubara remains the governor and could be carrying out responsibilities elsewhere, including outside the state, adding that resumption does not have to happen the very day restrictions are lifted.
