NNPP Expels Lawmaker Abdulmumin Jibrin Days After Backing Tinubu

The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has expelled House of Representatives member Abdulmumin Jibrin, who represents Kiru/Bebeji Federal Constituency, over alleged anti-party activities and failure to meet his financial obligations.

Announcing the decision on Saturday in Kano, NNPP state chairman Hashim Sulaiman Dungurawa said Jibrin’s repeated public remarks against the party and its leadership left no option but expulsion.

The move comes just days after Jibrin appeared on Channels TV’s Politics Today, where he openly declared support for President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections. He also suggested that NNPP’s national leader was willing to work with the APC.

Dungurawa dismissed Jibrin as a “weak politician,” arguing that his political success was only possible through the Kwankwasiyya Movement and NNPP platform.

“If he was truly strong, he would have won under APC, but he failed. It was when he joined NNPP through Kwankwasiyya that he became a House of Reps member. Now he is deceiving himself thinking he is strong,” the chairman said.

He revealed that the party had initially set up a reconciliation committee after Jibrin’s TV comments, but said his subsequent actions showed he was working against NNPP’s interest.

“Instead of dialogue, he went further to declare loyalty outside the party. That is why we expelled him. He has no value to add,” Dungurawa added.

The NNPP chairman also accused Jibrin of defaulting on mandatory party dues and vowed to seek legal redress.

“We will drag him to court to recover what he owes. It is a constitutional requirement for every member to pay dues, but he has consistently failed to do so,” he said.
