Kaduna Govt Denies Approving ₦2.3 Trillion for Tinubu’s Campaign Rally

The Kaduna State Government has denied claims that Governor Uba Sani approved and released ₦2.3 trillion for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign flag-off in the state, describing a letter circulating on social media as fabricated.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, said the purported document was fraudulent and intended to damage the governor’s reputation for responsible financial management.

The letter, dated October 18, 2026, and titled Notification for Preparations for the Grand Rally Flag Off, allegedly came from Sani and was addressed to Senator Abdulazeez Yari, identified as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

It claimed that the governor had allocated ₦2.3 trillion to the campaign rally scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026.

Maiyaki dismissed the allegation, noting that Kaduna State’s entire 2026 budget stood at ₦985.92 billion. He argued that the amount claimed in the letter was more than twice the state’s annual budget and was unsupported by any genuine appropriation, approval or expenditure records.

The commissioner also pointed to inconsistencies in the document, including the misspelling of the governor’s surname as Uba Sai and irregularities in its presentation. He further raised concerns about the apparent unauthorised reproduction of Sani’s signature.

Maiyaki stated that the government completely disowned the letter, insisting that Sani neither wrote nor authorised it and that no ₦2.3 trillion had been budgeted, approved or released for the campaign rally.

He said that since taking office on May 29, 2023, the governor had prioritised fiscal discipline, transparency, accountability and the responsible management of public funds.

According to the commissioner, the administration’s approach was reflected in investments in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and social protection. He also cited the rehabilitation of public institutions, settlement of inherited pension liabilities and efforts to improve residents’ welfare.

Maiyaki expressed concern over what he described as a growing pattern of coordinated misinformation aimed at discrediting the governor and his administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He warned that deliberately fabricating official correspondence was a criminal offence punishable under the law, adding that political competition should be based on credible evidence rather than false financial claims.

The commissioner said the government was taking steps to establish the origin of the document and urged security and investigative agencies to investigate possible forgery or impersonation and take appropriate action against anyone found culpable.

He also advised members of the public and media organisations to verify documents before circulating or publishing them, particularly those containing allegations about public expenditure.

Maiyaki reaffirmed that the Sani administration remained focused on maintaining peace, strengthening public institutions, expanding infrastructure and improving citizens’ welfare, insisting that it would continue to pursue prudent financial management and sustainable development.
