FG To Publish Delayed 2024 Budget Report September End

The Federal Government will release the 2024 Budget Performance Report before the end of September 2025, alongside the outstanding first and second quarter reports for 2025.

In a statement on Friday, the Budget Office of the Federation acknowledged that the reports had not been published since the second quarter of 2024 but said the delay was temporary and tied to verification exercises and reconciliations with implementing agencies. It added that Nigeria’s shift to a new extended fiscal framework also contributed to the setback.

“The delay should not be seen as backsliding, but as care taken to ensure accuracy and credibility during an exceptional budget cycle,” the office explained. It noted that releasing reports under the old cycle would have caused conflicting data once the revised framework took effect.

To close the gap, the office announced that by September end, the full-year 2024 report and the pending Q1–Q2 2025 reports would be published, after which quarterly releases would resume as scheduled.

The Budget Office reaffirmed that the Fiscal Responsibility Act compels it to publish quarterly reports, stressing that the documents are not just accounting summaries but include expenditure tracking and physical verification of projects nationwide.

It said new monitoring systems and digital integration with ministries and agencies were being introduced to improve efficiency, while collaboration across government institutions was being strengthened.

“Our commitment to transparency, timeliness, and accountability remains unwavering,” the office stated, adding that credible data was vital for building trust with citizens, markets, and international partners.

The office also assured that fiscal reporting would return to a predictable January–December cycle in line with ongoing budget reforms.
