Uba Sani Says Real Elections Are Won At Grassroots Not On Social Media

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has taken a swipe at opposition parties, warning that elections cannot be won through social media propaganda.

He made the remarks on Monday at a stakeholders’ meeting held after the All Progressives Congress secured two state constituencies and a federal constituency in the just concluded by-elections.

The governor argued that victory at the polls comes from strong grassroots mobilisation and effective governance, not online battles. He accused rival parties of wasting energy on Twitter and Facebook debates while the APC connected directly with communities across Kaduna.

Sani hailed the outcome of the polls as historic, pointing out that some communities backed the APC for the first time since 1999. He attributed this shift to his administration’s policies that promote inclusivity, rural development, and economic growth.

According to him, investments in agriculture and rural empowerment have changed perceptions among voters. He noted that more than 500,000 hectares of abandoned farmlands once lost to insecurity have been reclaimed, boosting production of maize, tomatoes, and ginger and placing Kaduna among the leading producers in the country.

The governor urged party executives not to lose touch with the people, stressing that the APC’s survival in future elections, especially 2027, rests on staying true to its manifesto and maintaining people-centred leadership.

Sani told stakeholders to always prioritise the party over personal interests, reminding them that consistent engagement at the grassroots is the only way to remain unbeatable.

Kaduna APC chairman Emmanuel Jekada also praised the governor’s leadership, describing it as a key factor in the party’s recent success. He expressed optimism that unity within the APC will strengthen its chances as the 2027 elections approach.
