The All Progressives Congress in Anambra State has criticised Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his recent visit to President Bola Tinubu, describing it as a last-minute attempt to salvage political relevance ahead of the November 2025 governorship election.

In a statement from the Nicholas Ukachukwu/Uche Ekwunife Campaign Organisation, spokesperson Okechukwu Modebe said the meeting at the Presidential Villa was a publicity move aimed at creating the impression of a political endorsement that does not exist. He accused Soludo of four years of poor governance, detachment from grassroots concerns, and political missteps.

Soludo, a member of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, had on Tuesday pledged support for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid during the visit. The APC claimed the trip was being misrepresented to boost APGA’s image, which they argue is losing influence in the state.

Modebe said the party’s focus remains on the upcoming governorship poll and the August 16 Anambra South senatorial re-run, where its candidate, Chief Azuka Okwuosa, is expected to challenge APGA’s dominance. He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure transparent elections, warning that old political practices in the state are coming to an end.
President Tinubu, in a social media post, welcomed Soludo’s visit, describing him as a long-time friend. He said their discussion covered ongoing economic reforms, security concerns, and opportunities for youth empowerment, stressing the importance of cooperation among progressives to strengthen democracy and drive development.
The Anambra governorship election is set for November 8, 2025.
