African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Dele Momodu has said the party knows how to prevent President Bola Tinubu from securing a second term in the 2027 general election.
Momodu made the statement during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Wednesday, saying opposition leaders were working behind the scenes to challenge Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The publisher of Ovation Magazine declined to reveal the party’s strategy, arguing that its plans would not be made public.
He recalled how Tinubu fought to secure a second term as governor of Lagos State, adding that opposition figures were also working towards their political objectives.
Momodu also questioned the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) under Tinubu’s administration. He alleged that the president had appointed too many people from the South-West to the electoral body.
He further claimed that many Nigerians, including some Tinubu supporters, doubted the president’s willingness to ensure a free and fair election in 2027. Momodu estimated that 90 per cent of Nigerians would not trust the president to oversee a credible poll.
The ADC chieftain also dismissed concerns that Tinubu might refuse to accept defeat, saying the determination of ordinary Nigerians could influence the election’s outcome.
He alleged that fear had weakened checks on the president among governors, judges and legislators, adding that some people publicly supporting Tinubu privately hoped he would lose because they were uncomfortable with his influence over political office holders.
Momodu’s comments come as political parties and opposition leaders intensify preparations for the 2027 general election.
