Troops of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, have repelled attempted terrorist attacks on two military bases in Borno State, killing four terrorists and recovering weapons and ammunition.

The attacks targeted Forward Operating Bases in Gajiram, Nganzai Local Government Area, and Mairari, Guzamala Local Government Area.

The military also recorded the surrender of two Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad terrorists, including a commander, amid continued operations against insurgents across the state.
The Acting Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, Captain Mohammed Goni, confirmed the incidents in a statement issued on Friday.
According to the statement, troops detected terrorists moving towards the Gajiram base on September 17, 2026, with support from intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance assets of the Multinational Joint Task Force.
The troops took defensive positions while the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai provided air support. The coordinated response forced the attackers to withdraw from the area into surrounding locations.
Later that night, ISWAP fighters launched another assault on the military base at Mairari. The troops resisted the attack with additional air support and prevented the terrorists from overrunning the location.
A subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of four bodies believed to belong to the attackers, alongside AK-47 rifles, magazines, ammunition, RPG bombs and a camcorder.

Some soldiers sustained injuries during the engagements and were stabilised before being taken to hospital for further medical treatment.
Following the attacks, the affected locations were reinforced to strengthen their defensive positions and prevent further attempts by terrorists to regroup or launch fresh assaults.
In a separate development, two JAS terrorists surrendered to troops of Sector 1, Operation Hadin Kai, along the Miyanti-Darel Jamel axis in Bama Local Government Area on the night of September 16.
The two men, one of whom was identified as a commander, surrendered with three AK-47 rifles, five magazines, a motorcycle and ammunition.
They were taken into military custody for preliminary investigation and profiling in line with established procedures.
The Theatre Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, commended the troops, intelligence personnel and aircrew involved in the operations.
Ajose directed troops to maintain pressure on terrorist groups and continue efforts to protect communities across the North-East.
He also called on terrorists still operating in the bush to surrender through the appropriate channels and urged residents to provide security agencies with timely and credible information that could assist ongoing operations.
