Two former All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirants for the Lagos State House of Assembly have defected to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 general election.

The politicians, former Agege Local Government Chairman Kola Egunjobi and Azeez Yusuf, popularly known as Ninolowo, are seeking election to represent Agege Constituencies I and II, respectively.

The duo reportedly obtained the APM tickets after developments surrounding the APC’s candidate list for the two constituencies.
Egunjobi and Ninolowo had previously emerged as winners of the APC primary elections conducted in May and were expected to contest the 2027 Assembly election under the party.
However, their positions on the APC ticket changed after the party’s candidate list was subsequently altered.

Oluwagbenga Abiola was listed as the APC candidate for Agege Constituency I, while Enimakure Akindele Sakiru was named to contest the Constituency II seat.
The changes led to disagreement among some of the aspirants and their supporters, with Egunjobi publicly challenging the outcome in June.
The former council chairman had alleged that the result announced for the Agege Constituency I primary did not reflect the votes recorded at the different voting centres.
He maintained that he won the primary and questioned the decision to recognise another candidate for the constituency.
Following the latest development, Egunjobi and Ninolowo have moved to the APM, where they will continue their respective campaigns for seats in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
Their departure from the APC adds another dimension to the political contest in Agege as parties and aspirants intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
