Former civilian Governor of Adamawa State, Mohammed Bamanga Tukur, has died at the age of 94.

Tukur reportedly died in Abuja on Saturday after battling a prolonged illness.

The late politician was the third civilian governor of the former Gongola State, serving from August to November 1983 before the military takeover that ended the civilian administration.
Tukur was also a technocrat, industrialist and former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He served as Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and later became President of the African Roundtable Business.

He had been out of public activities due to ill health since 2023.
Reacting to his death, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri described the former governor as an elder statesman whose death was a loss to both the state and Nigeria.
Fintiri said Tukur contributed to the political, socio-economic and industrial development of the country throughout his public career.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Humashi Wounishikou, the governor declared three days of mourning in honour of the former governor.
Sympathisers have also continued to visit Tukur’s residence in Old GRA, Jimeta, to pay their respects and offer condolences to members of his family.
