The decision follows the restoration by the Independent National Electoral Commission of four State House of Assembly constituencies that had previously been excluded from electoral representation.

The restored constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State, and Yagba West II in Kogi State.

The APC will also conduct primaries for upcoming legislative bye-elections in Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano states.

The affected seats include the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in Gombe State, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies in Bauchi, Udu State Constituency in Delta and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano.

According to the party’s schedule, the sale of expression of interest and nomination forms began on August 18 and will end on August 20.

Aspirants are also required to submit their completed forms and supporting documents by August 20.

The party will conduct the screening of aspirants on August 21, with the results of the exercise also expected to be published on the same day. Aspirants who have complaints about the screening process will also have an opportunity to file appeals.

The primary elections will then take place on August 22 across the affected constituencies.

The party has fixed August 24 for appeals arising from the primary elections.

For candidates seeking the APC ticket for the State House of Assembly seats, the expression of interest form costs N1 million, while the nomination form is priced at N5 million, bringing the total cost to N6 million.

Candidates seeking the party’s ticket for the House of Representatives will pay N1 million for the expression of interest form and N9 million for the nomination form, making a total of N10 million.

The APC said female aspirants, young people and persons living with disabilities would receive a concession on the nomination fees. They are required to pay the full expression of interest fee but only half of the prescribed nomination fee for the respective positions.

The party also directed all aspirants to make their payments in full through its designated bank account.

The primary elections for the restored constituencies follow INEC’s decision to return the seats to the electoral map after a series of court judgments.

The constituencies had remained excluded from elections for several years, leaving residents without elected representatives in their respective State Houses of Assembly.

The APC’s timetable is also expected to guide the selection of its candidates for the legislative bye-elections scheduled in Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano.

In Gombe State, the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency seat became vacant following the death of its former representative, Tongo Yaya.

The party’s August 22 primaries will therefore determine the candidates who will fly the APC flag in the affected legislative contests.
