The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) branch, has declared a total and indefinite strike over the non-implementation of the 2025 agreement between the Federal Government and the union.

The chairman of the union, Prof. Boluwaji Oshodi, disclosed this on Tuesday in Akure while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria.

The fresh strike came barely a week after the union suspended an earlier industrial action over unpaid salary arrears after the outstanding payments were received.

Oshodi said the union had made several attempts to engage the Ondo State Government on the implementation of the agreement through letters and requests for meetings, but had not seen concrete action from the government.
He said the union had therefore resolved that its members would not return to the classrooms based on promises or assurances from the government.
According to him, the lecturers would remain on strike until the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU agreement was implemented and salary arrears owed from January were paid.

Oshodi said the union had given the government enough time to address the matter but had become unwilling to accept further commitments without corresponding action.
He also questioned why Ondo State had yet to implement the agreement when some other state governments had already begun doing so.
The ASUU chairman noted that the union remained open to discussions with the state government and was willing to consider any genuine effort to resolve the dispute.
However, he maintained that lecturers would only resume work after implementation of the agreement had commenced and the outstanding salary arrears from January to date had been settled.
The 2025 FGN-ASUU agreement includes revised salary arrangements for university lecturers, a 40 per cent salary review for academic staff and the payment of accumulated salary arrears.
The development comes a day after the ASUU branch of Imo State University, Owerri, also commenced an indefinite strike over unpaid entitlements and the alleged failure of the state government and university management to implement an agreement on improved welfare and conditions of service.
