Davido Writes to Trump over Osun Election

Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump and the international community to monitor developments surrounding the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election.

Davido, whose uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election, raised concerns about the possibility of violence, intimidation and disruption of the electoral process ahead of the poll.

In a message directed at Trump, the singer urged the US President and other members of the international community to pay attention to the election and encourage Nigerian authorities to protect voters and ensure that their votes are respected.

Davido said residents of Osun should be allowed to exercise their voting rights without fear, stressing the need for peace and a transparent electoral process.

He said he did not want violence or intimidation during the election and called on political actors to allow voters to freely decide who should govern the state.

The singer had previously said he would contact Trump if he believed that anything went wrong during the election. He also indicated that he could raise the matter publicly and seek international attention if necessary.

Davido has remained vocal about developments surrounding the Osun election as political tension has increased between the major parties and their candidates.

Governor Adeleke is seeking another term under the Accord Party and is facing the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, in the August 15 poll.

The election is expected to attract close attention as both camps continue their final mobilisation ahead of voting day.
