Suspected gunmen reportedly attacked St. Joseph Catholic Church in Inoyi, Affa, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State on Sunday morning, abducting a seminarian and another worshipper during a church service.

The attack reportedly occurred while worshippers were gathered for Mass, throwing the community into panic.

Reports circulating on social media indicated that the armed men stormed the church premises and seized a seminarian who had come to participate in the service, alongside a catechist and another worshipper.
According to information shared by social media influencer Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi on Facebook, the kidnappers later freed the catechist but left with the seminarian and the other victim.
Ugwuanyi stated that youths in the community immediately began searching nearby forests and bushes in an effort to locate the abducted victims.

He, however, noted that the search team was proceeding carefully because the kidnappers were believed to be heavily armed.
The incident has reportedly left residents of the community in fear as efforts continue to trace the whereabouts of those taken away.
In another Facebook post, a different social media user shared a video said to have been recorded after the attack and claimed it showed the aftermath of the incident at the church.
The user also appealed to the Enugu State Government and security agencies to take urgent steps to strengthen security in the area and ensure the safe rescue of the victims.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Enugu State Police Command nor the Catholic Church had issued an official statement confirming the attack or providing details on ongoing rescue efforts.
The reported incident comes amid growing concerns over kidnapping and violent attacks in parts of Enugu State, where security agencies have continued operations aimed at tackling criminal activities.
