6 Soldiers Killed, 75 Residents Abducted as Bandits Attack Zamfara Community

Suspected bandits have reportedly killed six soldiers and abducted more than 70 residents during a late-night attack on Kasuwar Daji community in Kaura-Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

Residents said the attack occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday after the gunmen reportedly overpowered a military outpost stationed in the community.

According to sources in the area, the attackers stormed Kasuwar Daji in large numbers, opened fire and engaged security personnel before taking control of the area. After overrunning the military position, the gunmen reportedly moved through the community, looting several shops and carting away food items, drinks and other valuables.

The assailants were also said to have taken more than 70 residents into the nearby forest. However, the exact number of those abducted has not been officially confirmed.

A resident, Alhaji Aminu Kasuwar Daji, said the attack left the community in fear, adding that the gunmen arrived heavily armed and immediately began shooting as they advanced toward the military outpost.

He appealed to both the Zamfara State Government and the Federal Government to strengthen security across the state, saying residents were living under constant threat due to repeated attacks by armed groups.

Former Deputy Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly, Hon. Namadi Kasuwar Daji, also confirmed that his community came under attack.

He explained that he was outside the state when the incident happened but received reports from family members about the invasion. According to him, he was informed that soldiers lost their lives during the attack, although he could not confirm the exact number.

He also said the attackers looted several shops before escaping with food supplies and other goods, while taking an unspecified number of residents into the forest.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, said he had not yet received information about the incident. He promised to verify the report with officers in the area.

However, as of the time this report was filed, further attempts to reach the police spokesperson for an update were unsuccessful.
