Lost PVCs No Longer Stop Voters From Casting Ballots – Amupitan

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Joash Amupitan, has announced that registered voters who lose, damage or misplace their Permanent Voter Cards will no longer be barred from voting under the Electoral Act 2026.

He disclosed this in Ado-Ekiti during a meeting with media executives ahead of the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State.

According to Amupitan, the new law allows eligible voters who have already registered with INEC to obtain certified replacement voting credentials through procedures approved by the commission.

The reform is designed to prevent genuine voters from losing their voting rights because their original PVCs are unavailable.

The INEC chairman said the provision is among several changes introduced in the Electoral Act 2026 to improve voter participation and make elections more accessible.

He noted that the law reflects efforts to use technology to strengthen election administration and improve public confidence in the electoral process.

Amupitan urged voters to familiarise themselves with the new provisions and take advantage of the opportunities created by the reforms.

He expressed confidence that the changes would reduce voter disenfranchisement, encourage wider participation and strengthen democratic governance in Nigeria.
