The association said medical personnel should be able to carry out their duties without fear of intimidation or assault.

The warning follows a recent incident at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital in Akwa Ibom State.

In May, tension gripped the facility after operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission carried out an operation that led to the arrest of Professor Eyo Ekpe, a cardiothoracic surgeon and deputy chairman of the hospital’s Medical Advisory Committee.

Resident doctors said repeated incidents involving healthcare workers have become a serious concern.

The association maintained that medical professionals deserve protection and a safe working environment while providing essential services to patients.

NARD warned that failure to address the situation could force its members to take further action.

The association called on relevant authorities to safeguard healthcare workers and prevent future incidents that could disrupt medical services across the country.
