FG Delaying On State Police – Makinde Laments

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has renewed calls for state police following the abduction of teachers and students in Oriire Local Government Area.

He accused the Federal Government of delaying action on decentralised policing despite worsening insecurity across the country. He spoke during the Allied Peoples Movement primaries in Ibadan on Thursday.

Makinde said state assemblies should be allowed to establish their own policing structures instead of leaving the process entirely under the Inspector-General of Police.

He argued that states understand their local security challenges better and can respond faster to threats affecting residents and communities.

The governor linked his position to the recent attacks on Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School in Oriire.

Armed men reportedly abducted pupils and teachers during the coordinated attacks, raising fresh fears over insecurity in Oyo State.

Makinde said his administration introduced Amotekun because state police had not been approved at the national level.

He also assured residents that the Omituntun agenda would continue beyond his administration, promising stronger security and better governance across the state.
