CDS Deploys Special Forces To Oyo State

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede, has ordered the deployment of special forces and surveillance aircraft to Oyo State following recent kidnappings in parts of the state.

The move comes after the abduction of students, teachers and other residents by armed men.

The Defence Headquarters said the military had strengthened security operations in affected areas through aerial monitoring and ground troops working with state authorities.

It added that intelligence gathering had already begun producing useful results as operations continue.

Defence spokesman Major General Michael Onoja said the Armed Forces sympathised with victims and families affected by the attacks.

He assured residents that troops would sustain pressure on the kidnappers until those behind the crimes were arrested and security restored.

The military also revealed that over 300 suspects were arrested nationwide in May, while more than 200 kidnapped victims were rescued during different operations.

The renewed action in Oyo follows growing fear after the killing of teachers and fresh abductions in the state.
