Amaechi Rejects ADC Primary Result Over Irregularities

Rotimi Amaechi has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress presidential primary, insisting the process was flawed and did not reflect a fair vote.

The former Transportation Minister made his position known on Tuesday after results from the exercise were being collated.

Amaechi, who contested the ticket alongside Atiku Abubakar and Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, said many party members were not allowed to take part in the voting.

He argued that the exclusion of a large number of delegates made the exercise unreliable and far from a true democratic process.

He also accused the party of repeating practices it had criticised in other political circles.

According to him, the conduct of the primary fell short of internal democratic standards and did not meet expectations set by the party leadership. He hinted that steps could be taken to challenge the outcome.

The ADC leadership has continued collation of results and insists the process followed its internal guidelines.

The disagreement has deepened tensions within the party as rival claims over the presidential ticket continue ahead of the 2027 general election.
