NLC Demands Urgent Action Over Ogbomoso Attack

The Nigeria Labour Congress has called on the federal government to take urgent action after gunmen abducted schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The attack happened in communities around Ogbomoso, where several victims were taken from schools last Friday.

The incident also left an assistant headmaster and a commercial motorcyclist dead.

Tension grew further after a disturbing video surfaced online showing one of the abducted teachers, Michael Oyedokun, killed while in captivity.

NLC President Joe Ajaero said the attack showed that communities across the country were no longer safe. He warned that repeated attacks on schools and residents could weaken public trust and increase fear among Nigerians already battling insecurity.

The labour union urged security agencies and governments at all levels to adopt stronger measures against criminal groups.

The NLC also raised concern over reports that abductors used explosives and human shields during rescue attempts, making operations more difficult for security personnel.
