Wike Challenges Professional Associations

Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday urged professional bodies in Nigeria to focus more on bringing development to their institutions instead of constantly attacking government policies.

He spoke in Abuja while receiving delegates of the Body of Benchers led by Albert Akpomudje at his official residence in Life Camp.

Wike said leadership should be judged by projects and reforms achieved during a tenure, not by regular appearances on television criticising government.

According to him, professional associations should use their influence to secure improvements that would benefit their members and institutions.

The minister praised successive leaders of the Body of Benchers for seeking government support to improve facilities for the legal profession.

He disclosed that the annex building of the Body of Benchers would be completed by June, while the road linking the Nigerian Law School and EFCC Academy corridor was almost finished.

Wike also approved the construction of an access road to the Body of Benchers annex building and defended government support for judges’ welfare.

He maintained that constructive engagement with authorities produces better results than constant public criticism, while urging professional groups to work closely with government to address challenges in their sectors.
