A senior doctor at Lagos University Teaching Hospital has remained without salary for five months after taking part in a nationwide strike organised by the National Association of Resident Doctors.

The affected doctor, Babatunde Omoteso, said the situation has pushed him into financial and emotional hardship despite still reporting to work daily.

The dispute began after the November 2025 strike over doctors’ welfare and working conditions. LUTH management accused Omoteso of being absent without approval and later issued him a warning letter.

The doctor insisted he only joined an officially declared union action protected by agreements reached with federal authorities.
Omoteso said his salaries stopped shortly after the strike ended, and his payment details were allegedly removed from the system.
He explained that colleagues now assist him with transport and feeding while he continues working in the hospital’s emergency unit.
The Nigerian Medical Association condemned the action taken against the doctor and described the salary stoppage as unfair and dangerous for industrial harmony.
The union demanded immediate payment of all outstanding salaries, warning that the matter could worsen tensions within the health sector if left unresolved.
