The EFCC said the former minister is being investigated over the alleged diversion of public funds linked to the ministry she headed between 2019 and 2023 under former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.

The probe is connected to an alleged N37 billion fraud case.

According to the commission, a Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo had earlier issued an arrest warrant against Umar Farouq and a former permanent secretary in the ministry after they failed to appear in court for arraignment in April 2026.

The defendants are facing multiple charges involving breach of trust and abuse of office.

The EFCC alleged that more than $1.3 million and N746.6 million meant for government social intervention programmes were diverted for personal use instead of being returned to the ministry.
