State officials said the operators would provide alternative electricity solutions to homes, businesses and communities facing unstable supply.

The move is also expected to improve access to prepaid meters and reduce billing disputes across the state.

According to the government, the new operators will help expand electricity coverage through mini-grids, renewable energy systems and independent distribution projects.

Authorities added that the initiative is aimed at boosting economic activities and supporting businesses struggling with high energy costs.

The development comes as states begin taking greater control of electricity generation and distribution following changes in Nigeria’s electricity laws.

Lagos said the approvals form part of wider plans to strengthen energy access and attract private investment into the state’s power sector.
