In Nyesom Wike’s view, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory said on Friday that Rotimi Amaechi and David Mark lack the strength to secure Rivers and Benue for the African Democratic Congress in the 2027 elections.

He spoke during a media chat, pointing to past polls where Amaechi held power but failed to win the state for his party.
He explained that during the 2015 and 2019 elections, even with federal backing under Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign, the APC struggled in Rivers State.
Wike said he still won his governorship races despite strong opposition influence, adding that Rivers voters have shown they cannot be swayed easily by political heavyweights.
He questioned claims that Amaechi could now deliver Rivers to the ADC, arguing that past results suggest otherwise.
He also cast doubt on Mark’s ability to secure Benue for the party, noting political shifts in the state and outcomes that do not favour such expectations.
Wike urged opposition parties to focus on building real grassroots structures instead of relying on big names.
He maintained that elections are decided by voters, not reputations, and warned that parties that fail to prepare properly may end up blaming outcomes after the polls.
