FG Uncovers 45,000 Ghost Workers

Kemi Adeosun says the Federal Government identified about 45,000 ghost workers after linking payroll records with the Bank Verification Number system.

The discovery came as part of efforts to clean up the public service payroll.

She explained that the integration of BVN data helped expose irregular entries, including names that could not be tied to real individuals.

This allowed authorities to remove fraudulent salaries from the system.

According to her, the move was aimed at blocking leakages and improving transparency in government spending.

The exercise also helped ensure that only verified workers receive salaries.

The development forms part of wider reforms introduced to strengthen financial accountability and reduce waste in the public sector.
