Broadcast Owners Reject IBAN Boycott Call
Some Nigerian broadcast station owners have distanced themselves from the Independent Broadcast Association of Nigeria over its threat to boycott media engagements involving Nyesom Wike.
The group had earlier demanded an apology from the minister over his remarks about Seun Okinbaloye.
Among those who disagreed is Ambassador Yusufu Mamman, owner of JKD Television and Hamada Radio.
He said the IBAN position does not reflect the views of many broadcasters and should not be taken as a collective stance within the industry.
Mamman also questioned the authority of IBAN’s leadership, describing its statement as a personal opinion rather than an industry-wide decision.
He added that he does not belong to the association and would not support actions he sees as unnecessary.
He urged the minister to ignore the call for a boycott, noting that Wike had already explained his comment and clarified that it was not meant to cause harm.
