The unrest led to widespread destruction, with about 50 houses burnt in Akyawa community and two more destroyed in nearby Udege Kasa.

Many residents were forced to flee their homes as the violence spread. Security operatives later moved in, while efforts were made to stabilise the area.

The Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, visited the affected communities to assess the damage and meet victims. “We are deeply saddened by this unfortunate incident that led to the loss of innocent lives and destruction of property,” Mohammed said.

“The Command remains committed to ensuring that the perpetrators are identified, arrested, and prosecuted.”
Police said tactical teams and investigators have been deployed, with more security personnel sent to prevent further attacks.

Authorities added that calm has returned, while residents were urged to support ongoing investigations by sharing useful information.
