The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has increased crude oil allocation to the Dangote Refinery to seven cargoes for May.

This marks a rise from the five cargoes previously supplied each month, as efforts continue to improve feedstock availability for the refinery.

Earlier, the refinery’s CEO, David Bird, said the plant ideally requires between 13 and 15 cargoes monthly under the crude-for-naira arrangement but has been receiving far less.

Sources say the increased allocation is part of ongoing discussions between both parties to boost production capacity. While the new figure still falls short of demand, it is expected to ease supply constraints.

Industry reports suggest that diverting more crude to local refining could reduce the volume available for export, especially as global supply tightens and buyers look beyond traditional sources.

The move could also help stabilise local fuel prices, following recent reductions by the refinery.
