Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has said the completion of major infrastructure projects by his administration could strengthen the chances of the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 general elections.
Fubara said the projects completed across the state would provide APC candidates with concrete achievements to present to voters during their campaigns, particularly at the grassroots.
The governor spoke on Wednesday during the commissioning of the 14.5-kilometre Agba-Ndele Road and a bridge connecting communities in Emohua and Abua/Odual Local Government Areas of Rivers State.
According to him, the infrastructure delivered by his administration would make it easier for APC candidates to convince residents to support the party during the next election.
He said the projects would allow candidates to point to the administration’s achievements while seeking votes across the state.
Fubara said the newly commissioned road and bridge were part of his administration’s efforts to extend development to rural communities and improve the lives of residents.
He explained that the decision to intervene in the area followed the poor condition of the old Abua Road, which had made transportation difficult and increased the time residents spent travelling between communities.
The governor said the newly completed project would reduce some of the challenges faced by people living around Abua, Emohua and neighbouring areas.
He stressed that his administration was focused on projects that would have a direct impact on the people rather than simply executing projects for political recognition.
Fubara also disclosed that the bridge was started by an earlier administration and was not initiated by either his government or that of his immediate predecessor.
He said he chose to complete it because government projects should be treated as a continuous process, with each administration building on work that can improve the lives of citizens.

Fubara also tasked the chairmen of Emohua and Abua/Odual local government areas, Chidi Lloyd and Owolobi Michael Ofori, with ensuring the protection of government infrastructure within their areas.
He appealed to residents, youth organisations, traditional rulers and other community leaders to take responsibility for protecting the road and bridge against vandalism.
The governor said communities had a role to play in preserving public infrastructure, noting that government could provide facilities but residents must ensure they remain useful.
He warned that the destruction of public infrastructure would amount to a waste of government resources and could slow down development.
The state Commissioner for Works, Prof. Temple Nwofor, said the Agba-Ndele Road stretches 14.5 kilometres.
He explained that the road has a 10.3-metre binder-course width, a 7.3-metre wearing-course width and three-metre shoulders.
Nwofor added that the drainage system measures 0.6 metres by 0.6 metres.
He said the bridge is 239.4 metres long and 10.3 metres wide, with 1.5-metre walkways on both sides.
The commissioner added that the project also includes a 1.2-kilometre access road linking the bridge to surrounding communities.
