In Abuja, the Igbo Community Association has condemned the attempted coronation of an “Ezeigbo” in South Africa, warning that it could endanger Nigerians living abroad.

The group said such actions risk stirring tension between diaspora communities and host nations.

The association said the move goes against Igbo customs and could trigger hostility, especially after recent protests in South Africa.

It blamed organisers for causing embarrassment and exposing Igbo people to possible backlash in foreign countries.

It also noted that traditional authorities, including Ohanaeze Ndigbo, had already rejected the idea of installing “Ezeigbo” leaders outside Nigeria.

The group stressed that such practices undermine recognised traditional structures.

The association called on security agencies to act against individuals.

It warned that failure to act could lead to wider tensions and urged respect for both Igbo traditions and the laws of host countries.
