The group unveiled 19 members of the party’s top leadership at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, with Abdulrahman Mohammed emerging as National Chairman through a consensus process backed by about 2,500 delegates.

The move is aimed at repositioning the opposition party ahead of the 2027 elections, but it also exposed deep divisions within the PDP.

While delegates from several states participated, others, including factions from Edo and parts of Sokoto, stayed away, citing ongoing disputes and legal concerns.

Key figures at the convention, including Bukola Saraki and Sule Lamido, called for unity and reconciliation, urging members to close ranks and rebuild trust within the party.

Despite the show of strength by the Wike-backed camp, the PDP remains split into rival blocs, with court cases and internal disagreements still shaping its leadership battle.

The outcome leaves the party facing a critical test as it prepares for future elections.
