Wike Orders Illegal Estate Demolition

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has ordered the demolition of an estate illegally built on land originally designated for park and recreation in Guzape district of Abuja.

The directive followed the discovery of the development during an inspection tour of projects across the capital territory.

Wike said the land had been approved strictly for recreational use but was unlawfully converted into a residential estate by a developer.

He warned that the Federal Capital Territory Administration would revoke any approvals linked to the project and enforce planning rules to protect the city’s master plan.

The minister added that the illegal buildings have already been marked for demolition, stressing that violations of land-use regulations would not be tolerated regardless of those involved.

He also raised concerns that some developers exploit loopholes or work with insiders in government agencies to push through unauthorised projects.

During the tour, Wike inspected several major road projects across the capital, including the road network linking Karsana to Kubwa and the Arterial N16 interchange connecting Jahi and Gwarimpa.

He also visited the Airport Road–Kuje highway and a 13-kilometre road linking Kuje to Gwagwalada, saying the projects are part of efforts to improve connectivity and transport across the Federal Capital Territory.
