Nigeria’s Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, has introduced a new policy that will prevent graduates without the National Education Records Database verification from taking part in the National Youth Service Corps programme.

The directive means any graduate whose academic records are not captured in the National Education Records Database will not be cleared for mobilisation into the National Youth Service Corps.
The minister said the measure is part of efforts to clean up the system and stop fake certificates from entering the scheme.
Officials explained that the database helps confirm whether a student truly completed their studies at an approved institution.
Without that verification, the graduate will not be recognised for the one-year national service programme.
The decision follows growing concern over forged qualifications and irregular admissions in some institutions.
Authorities believe the new rule will help protect the credibility of the education system and ensure that only properly certified graduates take part in national service.
