Ibadan Court Backs Party Convention
The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has upheld the national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party held in the state on November 15, 2025.
Justice Ladiran Akintola delivered the judgment on Friday in a case brought by Folahan Malomo Adelabi.
The court granted the requests made by the claimant through his lawyer, Musbau Adetunmbi.
In the certified copy of the ruling, the judge held that the party met all requirements to conduct its convention, whether or not the Independent National Electoral Commission monitored the exercise.
The judge ruled that since the defendants did not oppose the amended summons, all nine issues raised were resolved in favour of the claimant.
The court declared that the convention, once convened, must be regarded as properly held and that its decisions are binding on all relevant authorities and individuals
The ruling comes after a series of conflicting court decisions.
Despite the convention going ahead and new national officers being elected, a federal high court in Ibadan later nullified the exercise and barred the officials from acting as party leaders.
