The appeal comes ahead of the February 21 polls, days after he signed the Electoral Act 2026 into law.

In a statement issued by his adviser Bayo Onanuga, the President asked eligible voters to turn out without fear.

He also warned political actors and supporters to avoid violence or actions that could damage the process, adding that security agencies are in place to protect lives and ballots.

INEC will oversee voting across the six area councils of the FCT and conduct bye-elections in parts of Rivers and Kano to fill vacant seats.

The commission says materials have been deployed, officers trained and BVAS devices configured, with observer groups cleared to monitor the exercise.

Movement in the FCT will be restricted from Friday night until Saturday evening on the order of Minister Nyesom Wike.

The new Electoral Act allows electronic transmission of results while keeping manual collation as backup where network issues arise.
