Zamfara Governor Blames Security Lapses For Attacks

The governor of Zamfara State, Dauda Lawal, has expressed frustration over the inability of security agencies to act on intelligence, claiming that real-time data on bandits’ movements is often ignored because it is “not their priority.”

Lawal explained that modern surveillance, including satellites and drones, allows the state to track criminal activity in real time and communicate it to police, military, DSS, and civil defence.

Yet, he says, actionable intelligence is frequently overlooked, allowing attacks to continue unabated.

The governor said he personally briefed President Bola Tinubu on the situation, arguing that federal authorities are not receiving an accurate picture of insecurity in Zamfara and parts of Kaduna.

He described the state he inherited as deeply dysfunctional, with years of bandit attacks, unpaid salaries, collapsed healthcare, failing schools, and infrastructure decay.

Recent events illustrate the persistent threat.

Bandits attacked Moriki town in Zurmi Local Government Area, killing a local health official and abducting residents.

Lawal warned that unless security agencies prioritise intelligence, communities across Zamfara will remain vulnerable to violent assaults and kidnappings.
