Gunmen Strike During Police Operation In Katsina
Gunmen attacked a Nigerian police team during an operation in a forest area of Katsina State, killing the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Sagir.
The assault happened while officers were carrying out a security mission aimed at clearing criminal hideouts.
The team had entered the forest as part of ongoing efforts to curb rising violence in the region.
During the operation, they were ambushed by armed militants who opened fire, leading to the death of the senior officer.
Sources said the attack caused confusion among the operatives, though reinforcements were later deployed to the area.
Security agencies have since intensified efforts to track down those responsible.
The killing has added to growing concerns over safety in parts of Katsina, where security forces continue to confront armed groups.
Authorities insist that operations will continue despite the setback.
