The criticism emerged as members of Congress questioned why the Nigerian government chose to spend heavily on foreign lobbyists while the country continues to face serious allegations of human rights abuses and religious violence.

During the hearing, lawmakers suggested the contract appeared aimed at easing international pressure rather than dealing with insecurity, attacks on communities, and complaints from faith groups within Nigeria.

They urged Nigerian authorities to focus more on protecting citizens, holding offenders accountable, and improving conditions at home, noting that image management abroad cannot replace real action on the ground.
