More than 100 residents were reportedly killed on Wednesday as attackers moved through the community, burning houses and targeting civilians.

The Kwara State Government blamed the assault on Islamic extremists, while President Bola Tinubu later ordered the deployment of an army battalion to the local government to calm the situation.

He added that several Christian worshippers were killed after being trapped during the attack.

“There are some who were burned down in the church. Some, they locked them inside their rooms and set it on fire. Those who were burned inside the church, we cannot identify some.”

Fear later spread to Kaiama town as panic broke out at the Kara cattle market following reports of armed strangers, causing traders to flee as videos of the chaos circulated online.
