The scare came barely two days after a deadly attack that reportedly left over 160 people dead in the area.

The incident unfolded while the market was busy, with residents saying unfamiliar faces believed to be armed suddenly appeared.

As the news spread, people abandoned their goods and ran in different directions, leading to chaos and a brief stampede across sections of the market.

Residents said security patrols were limited to street movements in vans, leaving markets and crowded areas exposed, especially on busy trading days.

The situation has added to rising tension in Kaiama following recent killings.

Community members said they had earlier warned authorities about suspicious movements around nearby forests, but no firm action was taken.

As of the time of reporting, neither the Nigerian Army nor the Kwara State Government had issued an official response to the latest incident.
