Nazifi was among hundreds of young Nigerians recently enlisted to serve in the armed forces. He was still in the early stage of training when the incident occurred, cutting short his ambition to build a career in the military.

The death took place within the training facility in Zaria, a major depot where recruits from across the country are prepared for active service. The camp is known for its physically demanding programme designed to build endurance and discipline.

Although full details are yet to be made public, the incident has renewed attention on the physical pressure faced by new recruits and the importance of proper medical checks and monitoring during training exercises.

The news has triggered mourning in Gombe State, as relatives and residents grieve the loss of a young man who had volunteered to serve the nation.

The development is also expected to raise internal discussions on trainee welfare within the army.
