Rivers APC Makes Bold Membership Push

The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress on Monday launched its electronic membership registration in Port Harcourt, setting a target of five million new members before the exercise ends in January.

The exercise is being carried out by the party leadership, local council supervisors, ward agents and technical teams, with the aim of rebuilding the party’s membership base across the state through a fully digital process.

Speaking at the flag-off, state chairman Chief Tony Okocha said Rivers began the exercise later than other states but urged officials to work harder to overtake them within weeks.

“This registration is not the one where you stay in your house and send anyone; everything about you as data will be displayed, so there is nothing like registering ghost names,” he said, adding that the state’s population gives the party room to grow quickly.

According to him, the new system is meant to remove fake entries and ensure that every registered member is real and verifiable.
He directed supervisors and agents to treat the task seriously and allow anyone willing to join the party to do so.

Also speaking, state secretary Chief Eric Nwibani said the goal was to place Rivers among the top-ranking states in party membership.

“After Lagos and Kano, in this exercise, we expect that if we cannot overtake Lagos, we should overtake Kano,” he said, noting that registering even 100 people per polling unit could push the figure beyond six million.

The party’s training coordinator, Silva Sanwi, added that the APC is working with the National Identity Management Commission to ensure accurate data capture and smooth registration.
