FCTA Moves To End Workers Strike

The Federal Capital Territory Administration has said most of the issues raised by striking workers in Abuja have already been resolved, with only a few outstanding matters still under review.

According to the administration, 10 out of the 14 demands presented by workers have been met.
The FCTA explained that the situation concerns workers under different unions within the territory, noting that some groups have openly distanced themselves from the strike.

It said unions such as the Law Officers Association of Nigeria have chosen to continue working and should be allowed unhindered access to their offices to carry out their duties.

The administration also pointed to support from the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory, which wrote to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, praising him for “his exemplary leadership and commitment to the welfare of healthcare workers, as demonstrated by the payment of the longstanding 13 months hazard allowance arrears as well as the payment of one month wage award.”

Speaking on the matter, the Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, said several meetings had been held with union leaders, including over the weekend.

He stated that during discussions with the Joint Union Action Committee on January 16, the minister clearly showed readiness to address all demands and appealed for dialogue rather than industrial action.

The FCTA maintained that, given these efforts, the strike was unnecessary and called on security agencies to allow willing workers access to their offices.
